Design of rear drive unit with stress constraints

  • Rear drive unit casing developed using optimization methodology that incorporates stress constraints.
  • Rear drive unit casing stresses were found to be reasonable and comparable to baseline performance.
  • Casing stresses, strict stiffness targets and NVH targets were included and met.
  • All this was accomplished with a final mass having of 32% over the baseline.
